Our journey begins!

Welcome to our blog! In the days and months ahead, we’ll be embarking on the greatest journey of our lives, and we wanted to find a way to share this special time. We’re new to this blogging thing and most certainly will be spending more time away from the computer than in front of it. But the idea will be to keep track of our training efforts, post updates of our travels itineraries and give family and friends an inside look at our biggest journey yet – marrying in Nepal and celebrating by hiking to Mt. Everest Base Camp, then on to Kala Patthar!
The picture at the top of the page shows the summit of Kala Patthar, Sanskrit for Black Rock. The summit is the dark mound in the foreground. That’s Pumori in the background. At 18,200 feet, this will be our ultimate destination. From the summit of Kala Patthar, weather permitting, views are said to be spectacular of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse.

The picture to the left is Base Camp. At about 17,600 feet, this tent city is the main gathering point for climbers and teams getting ready to scale Everest. We’ll make a pit stop here as well to try the pie at The Base Camp Bakery.
Our journey to Base Camp and then on to Kala Patthar will take us anywhere between 12-14 days. In the months ahead, as our full schedules become finalized, we’ll post it all here. If you have any comments or questions or advice, let us know. We’ll try to check the blog often, and we’ll certainly post any interesting goings on along the way.
So sign up if you like and you’ll get automatic updates as they happen. In the meantime, thanks for watching. We’re excited to be able to bring you along for what’s sure to be the most amazing year of our lives!
