March begins on Cardigan

What a spectacular day for hike up Mt. Cardigan! Hard packed trails, bluebird skies, summit ice sculptures and great friends. Meenakshi’s brother was in town, and he was looking for a winter day hike. It’s been a while since M or D had been up Cardigan and at just an hour away, it was a perfect choice.
We decided on a loop – up Manning, over the ridge on Mowglis and down the Clark Trail. Two to four feet of snow off the ridge, but only a couple inches of snow or ice on the ridge. The ridge walk between Firescrew and Cardigan was wonderful – no crowds, 360 degree views all the way to the White Mountains, and just enough blown over trail to be a nice challenging romp!
