Route to Base Camp begins to take shape

Not that there’s many route options to get to Base Camp, but it’s neat to finally have a map. With our tickets from Kathmandu to Lukla in the bag ($240 bucks for Dan, $80 bucks for Meena ’cause she’s all native) it looks like we’re really gonna do this thing!
Our journey will take us from about 9,500 feet at Lukla to 18,200 feet at the summit of Kala Patthar. Everest Base Camp is slightly lower, about 17,800 feet. It’ll only be about 35 miles from Lukla to Base Camp, a distance we can easily traverse in 2-3 days here. There it will take us 10, and two of those days – in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche – will be 0 mile rest days, where we’ll give our bodies a chance to catch up to the altitude.
It’s getting real now. Only two and a half months and three wedding events to go!
