And so it’s time…. our Base Camp journey begins!

As we began this blog, so shall we leave you today, with a shot from the Grand Canyon. Thank you for sticking with us! We’re excited about our journey and promise to make you proud!

Ten months ago, when we began to record the year-long journey that would end and begin both our lives, we sort of didn’t think anyone would care. But in the months since we opened our lives to what we figured would just be a few friends and family, this digital place has become much more.
We’ve made new friends here. We’ve renewed relationships with old friends. We’ve become closer to our families, and our families have happily come together to support us and watch us grow and share throughout the year.
Now, before we get all self-helpy here, we have to say it’s been a lot of fun too! Reviewing crazy food. Hiking, and giving trail reports. We’ve written about house renovations, and gear shopping, and vacations and sometimes the everyday junk that came into our heads. And as the months went by, we starting writing for ourselves, to make sense of the journey we were on, to help us deal with the stress of wedding planning, jobs and the everyday life that sometimes tries to wear us down.
And of course, we’ve had the best people stop by and give us support. A bunch of them, we are now friends with because we met here. One of them, we’ll meet for the first time in Nepal, the day before our trek!
And so here we are – in four days we shall leave for Kathmandu. In 10 days we’ll be on the trail climbing toward Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar… and then, what?
We don’t know. How can we top this year? What’s to come when we return? Well, lots of pictures of course. Like our Wedding Chronicles, we’ll run a series of installments on our time in Nepal.
And then….. perhaps EKP will continue. After all, our lives will continue, our adventures will as well. and we hope, our friendships will go on as they have, and stronger. Perhaps EKP will focus on hiking, perhaps there is a new adventure around the corner… time will tell.
Until then, friends, we want to keep in touch while we’re away. We’ll try to update this blog, but a more likely and easier venue in the short term will be Facebook. If you’re not a friend, let us know or search one of us out and say hi if you’d like to get reports. If you have trouble finding us on Facebook, drop us an email here and we’ll figure it out!
Either way, what follows is our approximate itinerary for the hike. Incidentally, we will begin our summit day at 5 a.m. on Oct. 19. If you are here, on the East Coast, that means 7 p.m., Oct. 18!
Thanks again and on to Nepal!

In 10 days you can walk up the trail to Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar? It was fantastic. I bet you need the time to make your trip the best camping tents, backpacks and other teams have. God speed on your next course.
